Counseling and Support Services

Each of your class counselors are available to support you, answer your questions, and help you to navigate resources.  Your counselors' focus is to meet your individual needs with both 1:1 annual appointments and availability throughout the year.  Please set up an appointment through Wams – this system allows you flexibility to schedule at a time that works for you.

Your Class Counselor may provide personal counseling in any of the following areas:

Academic advising:   Development of study habits and test taking skills, assistance with testing accommodations, guidance for multidisciplinary team meetings and Promotions Committee hearings.

Career and specialty advising:   Personal advising regarding specialty decision making, assistance with ERAS, NRMP, CV's, personal statements, and Careers in Medicine consultations.

Individual support:   Stress and time management, relationships, and professional identity.

Excused absences/leaves of absences and re-entry plans

Referral liaison:   To maintain compliance with LCME regulations, your class counselor cannot provide the services listed below.  Your counselors are happy to facilitate a referral to medical and mental health services, crisis intervention, neuropsychological testing, substance use treatment, grief counseling, and other types of outside referrals.  The counselors have a wealth of experience in helping students to navigate these resources so that referrals to treatment are accessible – if you run into any challenges regarding wait times, insurance, location, etc., please reach out.
